SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., Aug. 21, 2026 - A three-generation creative team based in the San Francisco Bay Area today announced the completion of an original AI-generated film trailer and treatment titled The Life After Ours, submitted to the Future Vision XPRIZE, a $2.5 million global competition challenging storytellers to imagine technology-enabled futures for humanity. Producer, Linda Lee Richter, creative director Abbey Richter, and 13-year-old writer Kaimana Brown, spent months writing, producing and refining the three-minute piece ahead of the contest’s August 15, 2026 submission deadline.
The Life After Ours follows Elias, a sixteen-year-old boy living in the healed city of Solara, who sets out with his friend Lyra and his rival Kai to uncover a buried truth about The Turning, the moment generations earlier when humanity nearly lost itself to disconnection before choosing to rebuild. Their journey carries them from restored oceans and coral reefs to a hidden orbital colony and finally to an ancient archive, where Elias learns that the future was never saved by one person, or by technology alone, but by people who chose connection, courage and hope over fear. The story imagines artificial intelligence not as a replacement for humanity but as a quiet partner, one that gives people back the resource technology has always promised and rarely delivered: time to be human with each other.
The project began as a family conversation about what kind of future is actually worth building, and grew into a full script, treatment and trailer created specifically for the XPRIZE moonshot challenge. Lee Richter, a Bay Area entrepreneur and CEO of Richter Communications and Design Group, brought more than 25 years of business and storytelling experience to the collaboration. Abbey Richter, a published author since age nine, shaped the emotional core of Elias’s journey. Kaimana Brown, a 13-year-old with his own outlook on an AI-enabled future, grounded the story in a young person’s honest questions about identity, purpose and what one generation owes the next.
“We wanted to prove that a family working together, with AI as a genuine creative partner, could build something that stands beside studio-scale productions,” said Lee Richter. “This story is our answer to the question every parent eventually asks: what kind of world are we actually leaving behind for our kids.”
“Elias spends the whole story feeling like everyone else already knows who they are supposed to become, except him,” said Abbey Richter. “I think almost everyone feels that way at some point, and I wanted young viewers especially to see that not knowing yet isn’t a flaw. It’s the beginning of the story.”
“My great-grandmother told me, before she passed away, that it’s not about what we gather, but what we scatter,” said Kaimana Brown. “That idea is at the heart of this whole film. I wanted to show that a 13-year-old can have a real vision for the future, and that the future works best when technology gives people more time to be human with each other.”
Future Vision XPRIZE launched in March 2026 as XPRIZE’s first science-fiction film competition, presented by Salesforce and supported by Google, Range Media Partners and philanthropic backers including Jed McCaleb, Rod Roddenberry, Cathie Wood and Abundance360. The competition awards a $2.5 million production grant plus $100,000 cash to a single grand-prize winner, with four runners-up receiving $100,000 each and ten finalists receiving $10,000 each. Finalists will be announced September 25, 2026, at the Moonshot Gathering in Los Angeles.
The team is available for interviews about the project and its vision for a hopeful, AI-enabled future.
